Diablo 4 Season 14 has just been released, and its gear system has undergone a major overhaul, especially the rework of Unique and Mythic items, causing considerable confusion for players searching for suitable gear. Are you also struggling to find good drops? Are you desperately searching for a specific aspect but unable to find it?
This article will guide you through a comprehensive understanding of the current version's Ancestral gear acquisition path, from basic routes to precise locations, letting you clearly know when and where to farm which gear.

Item Power
Before exploring gear acquisition, we need to understand an important indicator of gear strength - Item Power. It combines the gear's base stats and affix bonuses; higher Item Power directly means better base stats and affixes.
Once you reach level 70, all gear dropped on the ground will have 850 Item Power. Regardless of the difficulty level, even on Normal difficulty, every dropped item will have 850 Item Power. This will be your starting point for building your ultimate gear.
Ancestral quality gear is the ultimate goal in the current version, boasting 900 Item Power, the highest gear strength cap in the game.
Gear Farming Path
Step 1: Reach Level 70 and Acquire Base Gear with 850 Item Power
Once you reach level 70, your primary goal is to assemble a set of base gear with 850 item power. Stay at a difficulty level where you can comfortably farm (Normal or Penitent are both fine) and focus on acquiring a full set of gear with 850 Item Power. This set will be your gateway to Torment Tiers.
Step 2: Unlock Torment I
To enter Torment difficulty, you need to complete the Hellish Descent challenge, then go to Pit and clear level 10. Torment I is the minimum requirement for ancestral gear to start dropping.
Step 3: Search Ancestral Gear in Torment Tiers
Entering Torment I is just the beginning. Ancestral gear won't drop in large quantities the moment you enter Torment I. You need to progress through higher Torment tiers. Each Torment tier increases the drop rate of ancestral gear. According to community feedback, the drop rate of ancestral gear significantly increases starting from Torment III.
Step 4: Advance Paragon Board
While farming gear, don't forget to upgrade your Paragon Board. Paragon Board unlocks substantial damage bonuses and defensive stats, helping you challenge higher Torment tiers. Each Torment tier reduces your armor and resistances (Torment IV reduces armor by 1000 and resistances by 100%), making defensive stat improvements crucial.
Reliable Acquisition Method
Infernal Hordes
Infernal Hordes are currently one of the most reliable sources of ancestral gear in Diablo 4. You need to use the Infernal Compass to enter this mode. After completing all waves, prioritize exchanging for Equipment Chest - this chest guarantees an ancestral quality item.
Reputation Board and Seasonal Chests
Completing seasonal content in Diablo 4 (such as Helltides) quickly increases your Reputation Board rank. Reaching certain rank levels unlocks Mystery Archetype Caches, which have a high chance of containing Ancestral gear.
It's worth noting that these chests can be repeatedly obtained - you can keep claiming them as long as you continue farming reputation.
Purveyor of Curiosities
Purveyor of Curiosities is an excellent way to target specific Diablo 4 items - using Murmuring Obols allows you to gamble on a specific slot of gear. However, always gamble on the highest Torment difficulty you can handle. Gambling on Normal difficulty, even if you get Ancestral gear, will be of significantly lower quality.
Kurast Undercity
If you own the Vessel of Hatred expansion, it's an excellent source of ancestral gear. Simply use Tribute of Armaments and reach at least Attunement Rank 1 to guarantee an Ancestral Legendary item.
Nightmare Dungeons
Nightmare Dungeons are also a great place to acquire gear. Pay special attention to Nightmare Sigils with the "Equipment Delve" affix - elite monsters in these dungeons have a higher drop rate for gear.
If you don't have expansions but still want to enter Escalating Nightmares, you'll need to obtain them by defeating Stronghold bosses, but this is purely a chance-based event. However, if you have a Horadric Cube, you can put 5 different regular Nightmare Sigils in, click "Convert," and you'll get Escalating Nightmare you need.
Helltides
Helltides is another classic gear-farming activity. Accumulating Cinders in Helltides allows you to open various types of chests, which can give you targeted gear for specific slots. At higher difficulty levels, the quality of gear from chests will be better, and they may even contain Ancestral gear.
Whisper Caches
After completing the grim favors quest, you can redeem Whisper Caches at Tree of Whispers. Here's a little tip: If you encounter a boss quest like Duriel (worth 5 grim favors), you can quickly kill the boss on a lower difficulty to complete the quest, then switch to the highest torment difficulty you can handle and return it to Raven to complete the quest. This way, you'll receive experience and rewards at the highest difficulty.
Boss Target Farming
If your build relies on a specific Ancestral Unique or Mythic Unique, Boss Target Farming remains irreplaceable. Currently, various Lair bosses have their own independent loot pools. Using different levels of Lair Keys (Lair Keys, Greater Lair Keys, Superior Lair Keys), you can continuously farm the target Unique equipment, and also have a chance to obtain Ancestral Legendary and Mythic Uniques.
