I believe many people have heard of Clair Obscur Expedition 33, a game that has recently become popular all over the world. This RPG in this game may be different from any game you have played before. It is the kind of game that the less you know, the more fun it is. At the same time, many of its systems, themes and features will feel quite familiar. Let’s take a look today to see if Clair Obscure Expedition 33 is worth choosing on PS5 Pro.
Game Content
After so much effort in recent years, the developers have brought us a refreshing feeling. The turn-based RPG type game is based on exploration and combat, allowing you to travel through the story continent and stop the female painter from counting down on the boulder.
In the game, every year the female painter will write a number on the boulder, and then people of the same age as this number will turn into dust after a few months.
At the same time, every year the city of Lumiere will send a team to stop the female painter from counting down. The team is made up of warriors and mages who are about the same age as the female painter.
Having failed so far, you join Expedition 33, who must shoulder the burden of humanity’s final extinction alone and succeed where others have failed.
What follows is a dozens-hour adventure with some of the most fascinating stories on PS5 Pro. Gustav is often seen as the leader of the wolf pack who has risen from the ashes, but as you recruit more team members, the depth and emotion of the story will gradually unfold, and each character will become a vital part, with ups and downs, clear and obscure plots.
Rich turn-based combat runs through all exploration links and follows an engaging plot structure. In the game, you can freely travel between the continents. You can choose to go directly to the main goal in the distance, or you can take time to explore the optional areas, and new settings and challenges will be added during the exploration process.
Graphics And Music
The animations and voice acting in the game are high quality, with a strong voice cast, including Andy Serkis as Gollum in Lord of the Rings, Ben Starr as Clive in Final Fantasy 16, and Jennifer in Baldur’s Gate 3.
The ups and downs of the plot and the moody characters allow the voice actors to fully display their talents. In the game, a comedy scene may suddenly appear to surprise you, or it may quickly turn into a serious atmosphere, making you laugh and cry.
Gameplay
Each battle in the game has a team of three people, and each member has his own attack method.
For example, Gustav has been working on building an overcharge meter that can fire lightning blasts. He will gain energy by using other skills. The more energy he has, the more damage he will cause. And the other team member can switch back and forth between three postures, adjusting its properties according to your attack method.
The game adopts a classic turn-based structure, avoiding the enemy’s attack and then converting it into your own turn to inflict damage. Once you’ve parried an enemy attack, you can strike back.
This mechanic gives the combat system depth and style, turning enemy attack sequences into a dramatic spectacle that you must coordinate with your button presses.
Off the battlefield, you can customize your loadout with a range of Pictos and Luminas.
While Pictos are essentially perks, you can equip them to three of your teammates, and after four battles, their effects turn into Luminas.
You can then equip these Luminas to your other characters in exchange for currency, effectively extending the benefits of Pictos to everyone in your party.
You eventually understand these features, but early in the game, their implementation is baffling. Thankfully, other customization features, like weapon upgrades and costume changes, are much simpler.
Such a trendy turn-based and counter-attack combat system, along with fun exploration, a variety of customization elements, and a great story, makes for an engaging game.
Performance On PS5 Pro
The game looks and runs just as well as its rich story and gameplay, at least on PS5 Pro. The game is primarily played in Performance Mode, which lowers the quality of shadows, reflections, vegetation, and some textures. It now runs at a steady 60 frames per second.
In terms of image quality, PS5 Pro version also supports dynamic resolution, up to 4K in Quality mode and up to 1800p in Performance mode. On Sony Interactive Entertainment’s mid-range console, it usually runs at a resolution of 1080p to 1552p (quality) or 1062p to 1386p (performance).
Log in to the game, and you can see PS5 Pro performance footage here. The visuals complement the beautiful scenery in and out of the cutscenes, while most scenes have their own atmosphere and tone.
Some texture pop-in may distract you as you venture from one landmark to another, but the game runs very smoothly.
Overall, PS5 Pro provides an excellent console experience for Expedition 33. In the game, you can experience the combination of art and combat. I highly recommend you to experience it.
